  1. Only one in California, and that's in Southern CA. What with the loss of both the Treasure Box and Angel Food, who knows how some in CA are going to do. I know it was a blow here.

  2. Is there anything -- ANYTHING -- for the San Francisco Bay area? Treasure Box just closed its doors too, so the news about Angel Food is a horrible blow.

  10. I'm going to try shopping at Aldi's to see how much I can get for the same price. There's got to be a way to find bargain food, but it will be time consuming, and that's what made Angel Food boxes so appealing. They saved time and money.

  11. Southeastern Virginia has a Hampton Roads SHARE program, which offers Value Packages of food for $20 and 2 hours of volunteer service to the SHARE program. SHARE has been around a long time. I live in the northern part of Virginia, but was a student at ODU in the mid 1990s and a group I was a member of used to do community service by helping out at the SHARE warehouse. The link to their website is http://hrfoodbank.org/Our-Programs/share-hampton-roads.html.

  12. I have never used AFM since most of what they had was frozen food and I never seem to have enough room in my freezer for the large volume of frozen food they listed in their boxes. I am near Winchester, VA, and there is an Aldi that has affordable prices on food. In the coming months, a Sharp Shopper (http://www.sharpshopper.net/index.html) is supposed to open. People in this area who rely on AFM may want to check out Aldi now and the Sharp Shopper when they open later this year. Sharp Shopper sells mostly closeout grocery items at huge discounts. Someone I know who travels to the one in Harrisonburg has told me she can fill an entire shopping cart for under $100.
